Trey McFerren, CrossFit Level 2 Coach

Trey is a Level II CrossFit coach, as well as a nationally certified Personal Trainer. As an endurance athlete, he has completed seven Ironman Triathlons, 28 marathons including Boston, New York City, and Chicago, and has developed a great understanding of the discipline it takes to excel in these types of sports. As motivated as he is about his own fitness, he is most passionate about helping others reach their fitness potential by continually setting and re-setting achievable goals. He values the holistic approach to fitness and character building that the sport of CrossFit provides.  Trey trained with mentor Kevin Knight of CrossFit Midlo leading up to the start of pursuing his own gym. He adopted Kevin's philosophy and followed his guidance which led him to the next step of chasing his own dream, opening CrossFit Addict.

"It does not matter at what fitness level you start, with the right motivation and energy anyone can reach their goals." – TM

Jessica Ashbaugh, CrossFit Coach

Jessica Ashbaugh, CrossFit Level 1 Coach

In 2012 after 2 seasons of collegiate rowing Jessica gave up competitive athletics to enroll in pharmacy school.  She dedicated that first year to training for a half marathon, but then a former teammate introduced her to CrossFit in 2013 and she was hooked.  Some of the aspects that she loves about CrossFit include the competitive environment, focus on overall wellness, and, most of all, the community.  Team workouts have always been her favorite and a highlight of her CrossFit years was competing with a team at Wodapalooza.  Her love of the sport led Jessica to pursue a L1 certificate in 2019.  She's excited to use this opportunity to share her enthusiasm for CrossFit and encourage others to achieve their wellness goals.  Outside of CrossFit Addict she works as a pharmacist at VCU and enjoys spending time outside with her dogs Bubba and Lucy.

Ryan Burns, CrossFit Coach

Ryan Burns, CrossFit Level 1 Coach

After a long stint of inactivity in my late 20's and early 30's, I found my way into a CrossFit gym. It was everything the $10-a-month gym never gave me. I found coaches to tell me what to do and how to do it, and people that wanted to work hard and get better--together. After several years of training, I completed my CFL1 in 2018 and began coaching. I joined CrossFit Addict in late 2019 as an athlete and as a coach in 2020. In addition to CrossFit, I participate in 12-48 hour GORUCK endurance events "for fun."

Katie Mazzarella, CrossFit Coach

Katie Mazzarella, CrossFit Level 1 Coach

I think fitness as a way of life was always the way it was meant to be for me. I started swimming competitively at age 7, and from the very beginning learned to love the thrill of competition, succeeding at a physical challenge, and the nerves and adrenaline rush of a race. I became less serious about sports as I went to college and tried to figure out what to do with my life, but always felt like there was a part of me missing. I started running after my son was born to get back in shape and quickly found that love of sport and competition again. After countless half marathons, 5 full marathons and several sprint triathlons a friend convinced me to try CrossFit. I walked in the door of CrossFit Addict one day not knowing what to expect and haven’t looked back since. I knew I had found my passion. I love CrossFit because it makes me feel strong- not just physically, but in every other aspect of my life as well. It challenges me, it humbles me, it inspires me, it frustrates me, it gives me a high, it quiets the crazy in my head, and it drives me to be a better version of myself. And that’s why I love coaching- the opportunity to watch other people achieve success and experience these same feelings is such a privilege and fuels my own drive and happiness every single day.

Mark Gallant, CrossFit Coach

Mark Gallant, CrossFit Level 1 Coach

Mark Gallant is a physical therapist, board-certified orthopedic specialist, Fellow of the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapist, and certified in dry needling in Richmond, VA.   Mark received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion in 2012 and Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech in 2008 where he graduated summa cum laude.  In 2017, Mark graduated from Evidence in Motion’s Orthopedic Residency program and passed his Orthopedic Specialist Exam.  He immediately enrolled in Evidence in Motion’s manual therapy fellowship program which he completed in the fall of 2019. During the first few years of his physical therapy career, Mark had reservations about CrossFit, but this was mostly out of ignorance.  In 2017, he was invited to drop into a few CrossFit classes and was instantly hooked. It was the closest thing he had experienced to the intensity and comradery of wrestling.  After learning more about the philosophy of CrossFit and the fitness wellness continuum, Mark decided blending his love for rehabilitation and CrossFit was a must and got his CF-L1 certification. Outside of the CrossFit gym Mark owns and operates Onward Physical Therapy, travels around the country teaching other physical therapists with the Institute of Clinical Excellence, enjoys attending live music with his wife Liz, and hanging with his dog Remus.
